The Center for Music Education Research at the University of South Florida announces an award for music education researchers at early stages of their careers. Two awards will be granted. Award winners will present their research at the Suncoast Music Education Research Symposium (SMERS), February 5-7, 2009, have their papers published in CMER’s Music Education Research International, and receive a stipend of $1,000.
Eligibility:
• Music education researchers who are graduate students, preK-12 school teachers, or pre-tenured faculty in colleges and universities.
• For co-authored research, the first author must meet the above eligibility requirements.
Application Procedures:
• Submit an abstract according to SMERS “Call for Papers” (see http://smers.arts.usf.edu/) by June 30, 2008.
• Submit a research paper according to guidelines of Music Education Research International (MERI) (see http://meri.arts.usf.edu/), accompanied by a two-page CV and an email stating that the submission is an application for the “Center for Music Education Research Award,” by September 1, 2008.
Review Process:
• The Executive Board of the Center for Music Education Research (see http://cmer.arts.usf.edu/) serves as the review panel for the award. Evaluative criteria include clarity of the research purpose, appropriateness of the research design, implementation, interpretation, and writing quality.
• While simultaneous submissions to SMERS and MERI are requirements for consideration for the award, SMERS and MERI will conduct blind reviews independent of the award selection.
Expectations of Award Recipients:
• Present research report at SMERS, February 5-7, 2009.
• Transfer research report copyright to publisher of Music Education Research International.

• December 1, 2008.
